Play-based Learning

Here are the boys building towers and castles. They were comparing height, length and shapes used.

Landon was sorting farm animals from smallest to largest.

Liam was parking the cars in the parking lot. Finding the sight words and putting them in the right spots.

Liam was working on balancing the blocks. He created supports on the sides to prevent it from falling over.

Manreet was looking at a picture of the boat and building it.

The SK's working in small groups on Beginning and Ending sounds, along with rhyming.

Abby, Alison M. and Liam were sorting the foam blocks and ordering them.

Spencer was working on building his own computer using the soft blocks.

Landon was building sight words with magnets. He started to make the word SAID but realized we were missing a D.

Brenden went fishing this weekend and caught some tadpoles. He brought them in to share with us, so of course this sparked our interest. We looked up the stages a frog goes through to become a frog. We looked up what they eat and how long it takes to go through the stages from egg to frog.

Insect Investigations

We've collected more BUGS! We found a carpenter Ant, and named her Rosie. We've been learning lots about her and her friends. Yesterday we watched some videos and read some books as a class about Ants.

Some things to ask your child:
-How many stomachs do Ants have?
-Do they live alone?
-What do they eat?
-How do the ants know where to go for food?

We also found a spider, we named him Jake #2. We've been learning more about Spiders, as well as Bees.

You can ask:
- What do bees and Ants have in common?
-What do bees eat?
-How do bees make honey?
-Are there any bees that don't sting?

Here is Rosie, the ant.

Here we are reading about Insects.

More reading.

Spider/Art provocation.

Reading about insects.

More Play Based Learning

Liam building his structures. He was counting how many blocks he used.

Hope is tracing her letter independently.

Kingston, Liam R. and Jaxon were both building towers. They were counting to see who could build the highest tower. Both towers had 21 blocks.

Logan and Kayden are building ramps and obstacles for their cars.

Spencer is making Sonic characters on T-shirts, just like the one his brother has.

Abby and Kalen doing their writing in their journals.

Julia ordered books about sunflowers. She was inspired to draw a picture of what her sunflowers will look like once they start to grow. We looked up a picture on the internet for her to look at while she drew her picture.
