Habitats and Hands on Learning

Here is what we've been up to this week:

Alison and Davan worked together to make a pattern with the 100's chart.

Here are Mariah and Abby making patterns and pictures with the Bingo Dabbers.

Spencer, Kingston, Hope and Liam R. are playing a game with coins. Spin the spinner and find and identify the coin. At the end of the game we checked to see who had the most money.

Here are Julia, Kayden and Mylee counting. Julia extended her learning by using her beads to make an AB pattern while counting.

Aly is pulling her coins and graphing her results. She could tell us which coins she has the most of, the least of and which coins had the same amount.

Adding money to the Piggy banks.
Students had to identify the coin and see how much money was in their piggy bank.

Some friends worked with Mrs. Stoneman to play a game of trouble.

Spencer and Aly found this log outside. They insisted it was from a Beaver (after learning about Habitats on Monday). We talked about how it may have gotten into the Kinder pen. We noticed that it had holes in it and decided they must be from where ants made their tunnels. Spencer wanted to measure it so he got out a ruler and figured out that it was 24cm long.

Then, Spencer and Aly did some shared writing.
"We found a log outside. we think it is from a beaver."

Today, our friend Hope found a spider in her back pack. We decided to make a home for him. We started by looking up pictures and videos to see what a spiders habitat looks like. We went outside to collect some sticks and leaves. The students suggested we get him a spider web, so we talked about when spiders would make their own web. The students knew that spiders use webs to trap their food, so our next step was finding him, Jake the spider, some food. The kids spent recess looking for insects to feed to Jake! Hopefully when we return on Monday, Jake has made a web.

We made a list of what spider needs.

Here they are watching videos about spiders.

Jacob, Davan and Aly singing the popcorn word song and making popcorn words.

Our bean (from last week) has started to sprout, so Taylene, Manreet, Emmah and Mariah are investigating and making predictions.
